Market Day

Sunday is one of two days in Chi Chi when the majority of the town is converted into the largest open air market in Central America. Thursday is also market day but smaller.

The streets are literally invaded by make shift booths made mostly of wooden poles tied together with string and covered with tarps then filled with the vendors wares. Street vendors cook tortillas on open flame while women and children walk through the crowd with their hands full of items for sale saying "Buy for your friend...buy for your enemy" I guess they have learned to cover all the bases.

It's a barrage of color, sounds, and smells. Its's market day! All of that takes a lot out of us but thankfully we will find time today to rest some, enjoy a nice lunch, and then worship at Templo Nacinoal Metodista Dios Con Nosotros (The Methodist Church near Lidia's house in Chi Chi)

The team has experienced a lot of love from our hosts and from the people we have played with, worked with, and treated medically. The people of Guatemala are friendly and very humble. We have been touched by their generosity even in the face of what we would certainly consider abject poverty.

Saturday morning during devotion time Pastor Randy said "It's not about what we get done, how many people we treat or how many kids come to VBS, it's about the opportunities we have to see Jesus and to share the love of Jesus to others". To which I say "That'll preach!".

As always...thanks for your continued prayers for our time here in Guatemala.

Dios te bendiga (God bless you)

Eric
